Dongting Lake

Dongting Lake is located in northern Hunan province in south-central China, in a basin of the Yangtze River. This large, shallow lake is a popular carp fishing ground, and fertile agricultural plains surround its banks. The size of the lake varies depending upon the season, as it is a flood basin for the Yangtze River and four other rivers that feed it (the Xiangjiang, Yuanjiang, Zishui and Lishui). The lake is famous for its picturesque beauty, abundant animal and plant life, and mountainous Junshan Island with historical heritage.
